In 2020, I had the opportunity to work on a project with Equitone. They are a renowned manufacturer of facade materials. This collaboration came through the mediation of the creative agency Greenspace. The goal of this collaboration was to introduce their new product from the Tectiva line – TE 85 Graphite. The campaign aimed to capture the attention of architects. It also targeted professionals in the construction industry. The focus was on the idea that ‘great architecture begins with the stroke of a pencil.’
TE 85 Graphite: A Blend of Aesthetics and Functionality
Equitone, a manufacturer of fiber-cement facade panels, emphasizes innovation, durability, and aesthetic flexibility. Their product, TE 85 Graphite, is part of the Tectiva line. It stands out with its dark gray hue, inspired by pencil graphite. This material allows architects to design dynamic facades that shift with the light. It highlights natural tones and features a sanded texture. This texture adds a unique visual dimension to every project. Its aesthetic flexibility makes it a popular choice for both residential and commercial buildings.
Exploring Geometry
Creating sculptures based on geometric shapes required a high level of precision. I defined every angle perfectly and ensured the lines remained completely straight to achieve a clear and recognizable form. Geometric shapes are particularly challenging to work with in small dimensions. They require a high level of technical accuracy. This precision leaves no room for mistakes. In this case, I crafted each sculpture with maximum attention to detail to reflect the essence of the material.
The challenge became particularly evident when I worked with white pencils. Unlike graphite, the material of white pencils is much softer and prone to breaking. I carefully controlled every cut to ensure clean, sharp lines without damaging the material. This process required additional technical skill and patience to maintain the precision and clarity of the forms.
Working During Lockdown
I completed this project during the second quarter of 2020. This was at the height of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation was uncertain across nearly all sectors. Borders were closed, travel was restricted, and many communication and logistics routes faced disruptions. Lockdown measures and travel restrictions increased pressure to meet deadlines, while international material deliveries faced delays.
Working under these circumstances became a true challenge, requiring constant adaptation to ever-changing conditions. However, through patience and flexibility, I could complete the project on time, despite the difficult conditions and delays in deliveries. This collaboration serves as a testament to how dedication and commitment can overcome obstacles. It enabled the realization of high-quality artistic work, even in the most challenging times.
Beyond Defined Lines
This project is an excellent example of how art can find its place in various industries. It creates unexpected yet harmonious connections. The touchpoint of this collaboration was simple but powerful – the color of graphite inspired the entire campaign vision. My sculptures visually fit seamlessly into this concept, enriching the campaign and adding an extra aesthetic dimension.
This form of art has the potential to enhance different projects visually. It can subtly convey deeper messages, adding a new dimension to the design. Through collaborations like these, there is space for creative synergies that exceed expectations. These synergies connect art with various spheres in the modern world.
