Motherhood is a timeless and universal experience that has been celebrated throughout history and across cultures. From the ancient goddesses of fertility to the modern-day icons of maternal love, mothers have played a central role in shaping the world we live in today. At the heart of motherhood lies a journey of learning, growing, and caring for others, a journey that is both challenging and rewarding, transformative and fulfilling.
The modern holiday had its roots in the early 20th century when a woman named Anna Jarvis began campaigning for a day to recognize the sacrifices and hard work of mothers. But, throughout history, mothers have been celebrated in various ways, from the ancient Greek festival of Hilaria to medieval Europe, where Mothering Sunday was celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent when people returned to their “mother church” and gave gifts to their mothers. In many cultures, motherhood is revered as a sacred and divine experience, embodying the nurturing and life-giving power of the feminine.

At the heart of motherhood is the idea of nurturing and caring for others. A mother is someone who cares for you, teaches you, and fosters your growth. She is the first person we look to in times of need, often providing comfort and support in times of crisis. And, as we grow older, the lessons and wisdom we learned from our mothers continue to guide us throughout our lives.
As a sculptor, I have tried to capture the essence of motherhood in my art. One of my works is a sculpture of a mother holding her child above her head, symbolizing the idea that, to a mother, her child is even above her in priority. It is a representation of the selflessness and unconditional love that is at the core of motherhood.

Motherhood is a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and caring for others. There’s no one right way to be a mother, but there’s also no wrong way to be a mother. Every mother brings her own unique experiences, skills, and perspectives to the task of raising children, and that diversity of approaches is what makes motherhood such a rich and rewarding experience.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day this year, let us take a moment to reflect on the profound impact that mothers have had on our lives and on the world. Let us honor the sacrifices and hard work of all the mothers who have come before us and those who continue to nurture and care for their children today. And let us remember that the love and wisdom of our mothers will always be with us, guiding us along our own paths in life.
